What you can expect from this 5 Day Okavango Delta/Moremi and Linyanti Classic Fly-In Safari:
Xigera has excellent birding. Pel's Fishing Owl, Wattled Crane, African Skimmers, Slaty Egret, Rufousbellied Heron, Swamp Boubou and a host of Eagles, vultures and raptors will keep the bird-lover fully occupied. The rare Sitatunga antelope are at their highest density in the Okavango in the Xigera area. Stalking Sitatunga silently by mokoro is an experience never to be forgotten.
The wooden foot bridge, which connects this island to the next, is often used by Lion and Leopard to move between islands. Many a guest has enjoyed Lion viewing from the dining room. When water levels permit, game drives are an attraction. Some years we can drive throughout the year. If there has been a very high flood, we can only usually drive from late September to April.
Savuti Camp: Game concentrations here are high, especially in our winter months. Besides your normal plains game, the area has good concentrations of Roan, Sable and Giraffe. All the predators occur in the area - Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dog.
The Chobe/Linyanti area is renowned for its dense Elephant population and for some of the best Elephant viewing anywhere in Africa in the winter months. As the waterhole in front of the camp is the only supply of water for a large area in the dry winter months, one of the highlights for Savuti Camp is the fantastic wildlife viewing directly from the camp. Hides at other waterholes are also a special feature.

Days 1 & 2: Maun - Xigera Camp, Moremi Game ReserveOn arrival in Maun and after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met by a representative and transferred to a waiting light aircraft for an air transfer to Xigera Camp for two nights on a Fully Inclusive basis. Xigera (pronounced Keejera) is a luxury tented camp in the Moremi Game Reserve and is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta.
Xigera has something for everyone in an area where there are no other Moremi camps. Permanent water all year round allows one to enjoy an unparalleled variety of activities including foot safaris, mokoro trips, game drives and powerboat outings in total privacy. Enjoy a true Delta experience while you sit back in a mokoro (dugout canoe) and silently glide through the wonders of the tranquil Okavango waterways observed by a myriad of delta creatures. |
|
Watch the sunset and the birds gliding home to roost from a motorboat on the Xigera Lagoon. Observe the wildlife and unique delta scenery from the comfort of a landrover or, for the adventurous, track animals on foot. Or simply take in the beautiful sunrise from your comfortable bed while sipping your morning tea or coffee.
Nestled in a magnificent riverine forest, Xigera consists of8 luxuriously furnished tented rooms with en-suite facilities and an outdoor shower. Each room is raised off the ground on a wooden deck offering a superb view of the seasonal floodplain and waterhole. Meals and evening drinks are enjoyed under the thatch of the raised lounge, pub and dining area overlooking a permanently flowing channel. |
|
A traditional African boma offers alternative dining under the African stars. Wooden walkways wind through the forest connecting the rooms to the main living area. For those hot days there is a small plunge pool to cool off in. A feature unique to Xigera is the wooden footbridge connecting Xigera Island to the next. Guests are often treated to close up views of Lions, Hyenas or Leopard padding across the bridge as they move between islands. The camp 'newspaper' (a sand pit built into the bridge) is 'read' each morning and provides information on unseen nightly visitors to camp.
Paradise for avid birdwatchers, Xigera is home to Pels Fishing Owl, African Skimmers, Slaty Egrets, Wattled Crane, Lesser Jacana and a host of eagles, vultures, raptors and kingfishers. It also boasts the highest density of the rare and elusive Sitatunga antelope found anywhere in the Okavango Delta. When water levels permit, game drives are an attraction. Some years we can drive throughout the year. If there has been a very high flood, we can only usually drive from late September to April. Access to Xigera is by light aircraft only. |
Days 3 & 4: Savuti Camp, Linyanti ReserveAt a time specified by the camp staff, you will be taken to the airstrip for a light aircraft transfer to Savuti Camp for two nights on a Fully Inclusive basis. Savuti Camp is situated in the Linyanti Reserve along the Savuti Channel in northern Botswana. The camp is built about 17 kilometres 'downstream' from the source of the Savuti. The channel, which stopped flowing in 1980, has recently begun to flow again, providing for dramatic wildlife viewing.
Savuti Camp is a comfortable camp providing accommodation in 7 large walk-in tented rooms with en-suite facilities. Five of the bathrooms are within the tents and two tents have bathrooms with wonderful open fronts facing onto the Savuti Channel. |
|
Each room is raised off the ground on wooden decks. The camp has a thatched dining area, pub and plunge pool, all on raised wooden decks and looking out over the waters of the now flowing Savuti Channel.
Activities include game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers, hides, night drives and walks with an armed guard. Game in the area includes all of Botswana's big game, and is one of the best areas in the country to see predators. There are also good concentrations of plains game in the area. |
